Annually, in honor of Lion Barbara Fielding, the Helotes Lions Club awards two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors. Applicants for the scholarships must meet the following criteria:
1. Must be a graduating senior in the 2008-09 school year.
2. Must be a student at one of the following schools: O’Connor High School, Brandeis High School, Marshall High School or Taft High School or reside in one of the previously listed school’s attendance boundary as defined by the Northside Independent School District.
Scholarship applicants must provide the following documentation on or before April 7, 2009:
1. High school transcript posted through the most recent grading period.
2. Letter of recommendation from one school official.
3. Letter of recommendation from two non-relatives.
4. A self-description, in narrative form; including hobbies, employment, scholastic and organizational activities and awards, and major educational interest. Be sure to include your name, address and phone number in the article.
There is no restriction regarding the intended course of undergraduate study. However, the applicant must select an accredited college or university. The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of enrollment.

The scholarship winners will be notified by April 24, 2009. The decision of the Helotes Lions Club Scholarship Committee is final.
